Born on February 19, 1959 in Boulogne Billancourt, Nicolas Rachline graduated from New York University in journalism and mass communication in 1981.
From 1983 to 1985, when he returned from the United States, Rachline was hired as head of new media development at French film studio Gaumont. He produced the first music video of Yves Simon, "Amazoniac", then "Pull Marine", staring Isabelle Adjani, directed by Luc Besson. After having participated in the creation of the first experimental cable television network in France, Rachline then joined the Publicis Groupe as head of radio advertising sales. After co-founding TV6, predecessor of M6, in 1986, as director of sponsored programming, Rachline moved to the United States where he worked on the development of sponsored programs for the nascent European television market. A forerunner in the adaptation of American programs, he produced beauty contests for Canal Plus presented by French television star MC Jean-Luc Delarue, supermodels Elle Macpherson and Christie Brinkley, among others.
In 2007, Rachline published a book, Le Dissident, at the Editions du Nouveau Monde. In 2008, he acquired the fashion magazine Above and turned it into a high-end publication focused on the protection of the environment. Renowned artists and activists such as Peter Beard, Gilles Bensimon, Bettina Reims, Bobby Kennedy, Richard Branson and many others contributed to the magazine. It was then that Rachline developed a passion for photography.
In 2010, the publication became Abovelive, a web-based version of the magazine devoted entirely to environmental and sustainable development issues, featuring videos and publishing leading authors and photographers. Until 2013, date of termination of the publication of Above, Nicolas Rachline assumed the function of Editor in Chief. Fascinated by the psychological and emotional power of photography, feeling an ever-increasing need to seize and capture the moments of life that seduce and move him, he became a contributor to his own publication.
Nicolas Rachline is now a full-time photographer and produces solely personal projects.
